Modern Italian Furniture with Bohemian Design Style

Italian furniture design is one of the most admired styles when it comes to vintage décor. Ever since, Italy has produced some of the best furniture pieces in the history of interior design. There are several Italian manufacturers that invest a lot of effort to innovate and create luxurious designs, setting a standard for high-end design. Italian furniture is all about authenticity and even if the Bohemian design style is expensive, it can certainly enhance the home décor.

Not many people know what a Bohemian design style is. Bohemians were individuals that lived unconventional lives in the 19th century. Bohemians consist of a clan of actors, musicians, writers and artists who excel with their work, but are eccentric in accordance to the present societal norms. The term was incepted when a group of gypsies were visiting across Bohemia, however at the moment, the term refers to attitude, rather than your lifestyle. Bohemian design style is usually a mix of certain styles, rather than sticking to any particular design trend. It can be glamorous, with a touch of traditionalism, mixed with ethnic and modern pieces to best suit your preferences. It is very difficult to summarize the bohemian style since it is so personal, eclectic as well as varied.

The best thing about Bohemian design style is that you can choose different colors from the color palettes. For an instance, you can choose your furniture in rich jewel tones, or have it all white or mix it up with soft muted tones. Before you pick upon any color scheme, it is imperative to know the feeling you wish to create in the room. A few Bohemian places are dark and romantic with bold patterns and rich colors. As far as the furniture is concerned, a few worn but ornate pieces will give a unique look to your space with modern colors and innovative shapes. The key is to mix the styles and periods, until you find the right balance.

Modern Bathroom Design

As opposed to the common perception of contemporary spaces, a bathroom should feel warm and alluring instead of being barren and dark. While designing your bathroom, you must create a focal point that enhances your bathroom vanity.

To begin with, the bathtub is one of the predominant features in your bathroom. Apart from being visually important, it is also an essential functionality in the bathroom. By far, the bathtub is one of the greatest sources of luxury and pleasure in the bathroom. These are expensive and often considered to be a long-term investment. Therefore, you must choose your options wisely. In order to create a design statement in your bathroom, you must select a freestanding tub. Formerly, these tubs were also known as the “claw-foot tubs” and were found in the traditional bathrooms only. However these are now seen in the sleek, contemporary and new age bathrooms.

A claw-foot tub is the one that stands alone, without the support of any walls. It has an airy style, without enclosures and consists of a unique design. These tubs are now available in different styles including air, soakers and whirlpool. Freestanding tubs are created in different shapes, materials and colors. A stone tub is a fashionable option in the high-end modern bathrooms. These are expensive, but they enhance the décor of the bathroom.

If you don’t have space for a claw-foot tub, there are other choices for you such as a corner tub or an alcove tub. A corner tub is triangular in shape and is enclosed on two sides. You can set this corner tub in a wooden setting so that you can achieve a unique design. For a smaller bathroom, you can get an alcove tub that combines a tub with a shower. While it is one of the commonest choices for any bathroom, you can make it a little more interesting with distinctive aprons or lustrous finishes. Smooth lines, neutral colors and simple shapes are some of the modern bathroom décor principles.

Kitchen Trends For 2013

We all want a beautiful kitchen, however we also want it to be practical and comfortable. We have formulated some of the top kitchen design trends for 2013. The new-age kitchens are styled with contemporary designs with simplified lines and they offer open spaces to keep you entertained.

Appliances

Appliances perfectly blend with your kitchen décor and are becoming increasingly popular in the recent times. A few people like to create cabinets with wooden doors to store these appliances and add that traditional touch to your kitchen. For smaller kitchens, you can get mini refrigerators, under-counter appliances or trash compactors. Induction cook-tops and professional gas ranges are now being used to create a gourmet kitchen.

Lights

Your kitchen is one of the most visited places in your house; therefore it is important to have more lighting here. You can decorate the light with layered lighting, which is a mixture of ambient lighting and task lighting. People are also used under cabinet LED lights to accentuate the kitchen area.

Space

In 2013, people are moving away from their dining rooms and have started eating or spending more time in the kitchen itself. If you wish to redecorate your kitchen, it would be suggestive to include large kitchen islands, with sleek bar stools. This is one of the biggest kitchen trends in 2013 and will help you bridge the kitchen with the living area.

Colors

Neutral color schemes are in rage as far as modern kitchen design is concerned. Contemporary kitchens will contain shades of green or gray, along with a selection of wood tones. Bright and vibrant shades are reserved for some accents of the kitchen only.

Hoods

People are no longer using the stainless steel hoods. Instead of the traditional trapezoid-shaped chimneys, people are now choosing the decorative hoods. A few high-end hoods in the market contain built-in LED lights and can also serve as a chandelier for your kitchen islands.

Interior Decorating Tips and Ideas

Decorating your home could be one of the most interesting projects you would undertake in 2013. It is a blank canvas and there are limitless options of creativity here. You can make it as expensive or inexpensive in accordance to your choices and any interior decorating talent you possess can play a vital role. For an instance, your bedroom or your bathroom can look outdated and dull. Before you begin, you must always take these home improvement projects as opportunities to grow and improve. Knowing a few interior design tips or ideas will make your design project a little less stressful.

Know Your Space

It is important to know your space for a better design. For an example, the larger rooms can accommodate deeper colors. Typically, colors play a crucial role to make the room look bigger or smaller and as a rule, the larger space can include more colors. Measure your rooms before implementing any design ideas or tips. Space may be limited for those who live in an apartment or a studio. Contrary to the popular belief, smaller spaces are easier to handle unless they are overcrowded. Regardless of the size of your space, you don’t have to compromise on design.

Color Balance

Even if you love colors, you might want to consider those colors on your furniture or walls. While rainbows look beautiful, they might not make a good interior décor. Know what you want before you choose your colors. If you are looking for an open space, it might be suggestive to use warm or cooler tones that open up the space. Also, the cooler tones will bring some freshness in the décor. Dark or rich tones work well in the bedroom or any other aromatic spaces. It is believed that dark tones are known to be therapeutic and can help you release tension. Apart from the paint, you also need to consider the color of your pillows, furniture and table spreads. It is not necessary to apply the same color in large amounts to brighten your room, small amounts of different colors will help you create a focal part.

Interior Design Trends 2013

We have formulated some points, which depict the future design trends in 2013. The design industry is changing at a faster pace and it is impossible to stay in pace with these dynamic trends. Here are some trends, which are likely to be popular in 2014 as well.

Play with Colors

It is a popular saying in the interior design world that considers yellow to be the new pink. You will get to see more of yellow in 2013, since the color is largely used in developing lively and vibrant fabrics, fittings and color palettes. Its time to introduce some bold colors in your living room.

Explore Patters

In 2013, it is all about clashing your fabrics, in order to create an ambience that would stimulate your senses. The patters are directly proportional to the color schemes used and you can explore the palettes by introducing florals, stripes, geometrics and hand sketches in different textures. These days, you would often come across patterns, which are inspired by folklore Mexican, African or Bulgarian. Culture has played an important role in the evolution of such designs.

Pay Attention To The Touch

Touch is believed to be one of the most important concepts to focus on. Finishes and fabrics must be touchable, with warm textures and depth to engage the users into your space. Stone and sand colors are predicted to rule the design market in 2013. The New Year is all about experiencing and living in your home, rather than just passing by it all the time. If you are looking to renovate your house, use natural materials, which come with a unique texture and impartial tones.

Knits & Embroidery

Knitting, handcraft and embroidery are the latest design trends of 2013. From displays to fashion stores, you can see a knit or embroidered embellishment everywhere. The covering on the uppermost part of a building in Danish is known as a tagrenovering or roof. The main function of a roof is to protect the building from rain, or other weather conditions such as dust, sunlight, cold etc. and also the invasion of animals. It acts as a covering so that nothing enters from the top. A roof may be required for many different types of structures ranging from letter box to huge cathedrals. It is one of the most basic parts of the building.

The use of a roof may differ in according to where it is used, for example in a garden the roof is used to protect the plants from excess of heat and cold, whereas in a verandah it is used to obstruct the sunlight, and in many other cases it is added to add to the beauty of the construction. The construction of the roof differs depending upon many factors, the regional climate and the availability of the building materials being the major ones.

There are three major design elements of the roof: The Material, Durability, and The construction. The first design element i.e. ‘The Material’ concerns the substance used in making the roof, it may be banana leaves, glass, aluminum or RCC etc. depending upon the intended use. The second design element ‘Durability’ concerns with the durability of the constructed roof, as it is the part of the building which is the most difficult to access. So materials of good durability should be used. The third design element ‘The Construction’ deals with the construction of the roof, i.e. its shape, thickness etc. depending upon the intended use.

How to Measure Windows and Install Window Blinds

When purchasing and installing window blinds, it’s important to take precise measurements so that the blinds you decide on fit your window perfectly. While measuring windows for blinds isn’t difficult, precision is a must, as even the slightest error can cause frustration with blinds that either don’t fit, or look bad once installed. The following window measuring guide will provide tips to help ensure that your blinds fit perfectly.

Window Measuring Guide for Window Blinds

Before beginning to measure a window for blinds, it’s important to decide where the blindswill be mounted. For a neater and more finished look, a recessed mount hangs inside the window frame. It is attached to the window frame and does not project out over the edges. When measuring for recessed window blinds, an additional measurement must be taken, which is the depth. Hanging one-inch blinds requires a sill depth of 1.5 inches, and two-inch blinds require sills of at least 2.5 inches to ensure the blinds are fully recessed.

For outside mounted blinds, the blinds can be attached to the window frame, trim, or directly to the wall above and outside the trim. No matter where the blind is mounted with an outside mount, the window, frame, and trim are all covered when the blind is closed. The sill depth is not a required measurement for an outside mounted blind.

When taking any measurements, make sure they are exact and in inches. It is best to use a metal tape measure, as it provides the most precise measurements as it cannot be stretched in any way. Measure the width of the area first, followed by the height. When recording the width, round numbers down to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For height measurements, round the number up to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

Although windows and window frames look straight, they may not be, so it’s important to measure in multiple different spots for a recessed blind. Measure the width of window at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest result. The measurement should be taken from the inside of the trim on one side to the inside of the trim on the other. The height should also be measured from the inside of the trim at the top to the inside of the trim at the bottom, and three measurements should be taken (at the right side, the middle, and the left side). Use the shortest number.

Outside mounts hang outside the window, so before measuring, it’s important to decide where exactly the blind is to be mounted. Measure the exact width of the window frame if the blind is to be mounted on the frame. Also, measure the height in three places on the frame and record the lowest number. Both the width and height should be rounded down to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. To improve privacy and light reduction, blinds can be mounted to the wall and extend out past the window both in width and length.

If you are uncomfortable taking the measurements for your blinds, companies such as 3 Day Blinds can provide measuring services.

A Guide to Buying Quality Works of Art

When visiting a gallery or exhibition, sometimes you see that one piece that stands out amongst all the others. You have to have it, it would look great hanging above your fireplace. But how do you know how much it’s really worth? If your knowledge of art is limited, buying at galleries or auctions can become a minefield. Here are some tips on what to look for and how to make sure you are paying what a piece is truly worth:

Research the Artist

Online research is easy to conduct. Google the artist’s name and make sure you check out a variety of websites for information. Don’t just look at the artist’s official page. Do some research in your local book store or library, reading as much as you can about the artist from biographies to reviews and articles. Also familiarise yourself with the rest of their work.

Shop Around

Don’t just buy the first piece you fall in love with. Visit several galleries, dealers or auction houses before you commit – get second opinions and see the artist’s range of work. Make sure you have a feel for the market as a whole. A good place to start is to visit West London – particularly its notting hill art gallery scene.

Speak to the Artist

Whilst not always possible, if you have the opportunity to speak with the artist directly (at a gallery opening for example), you should make the most of it!  Chat to them about their education and career so far, what inspires them, what other works they have created and what their favourite pieces of work are. This provides a valuable insight before purchasing a piece.

Visit other Galleries

Make it your mission to see as much of the artist’s work as possible. You want to see the full range of their work and figure out why one piece is more valuable than another. Who knows, you may see another piece which you prefer!

Talk to Art Enthusiasts

Collectors, dealers, galleries and critics are all an excellent source of information. If attending an opening try to locate some of these people who are familiar with the artist. Talk to them about their opinions on the art, what makes it so special and its value in today’s competitive market. Don’t fire questions at them, just make conversation as an interested and enthusiastic art lover.

Always bear in mind that no matter how elegant the gallery, how tasty the canapés on opening exhibition night or how glamorous and friendly the owner, it is the art that you are there to look at. Don’t be blinded by swanky set ups or fancy installations – you want to make sure that the piece of art you are buying is of a high quality and worth the money you plan on investing in it.
